詹姆斯·弗雷泽·司徒塔特(James Fraser Stoddart)教授是分子机器研究的开拓者之一、2016年诺贝尔化学奖获得者、中国科学院外籍院士,在超分子化学领域享有极高的国际学术声誉,并有力推动了中国分子科学的发展。除积极培养中国籍博士、博士后及访问学者外,他还与国内多所学术机构建立了密切的合作关系,极大提升了中国超分子化学和分子机器基础研究的整体学术水平和国际声望,先后获得中国政府友谊奖、中华人民共和国国际科学技术合作奖等荣誉。多年来,司徒塔特教授与浙江大学建立了深厚情谊,作为Stoddart Institute of Molecular Science(简称SIMS)院长,推动成立了浙江大学杭州国际科创中心超分子新物质创制创新工坊,为浙江大学超分子化学领域的研究、高水平人才的培养以及一流学科的建设作出了重要贡献。
为进一步推动超分子化学学科的快速发展,司徒塔特教授发起设立“浙江大学教育基金会司徒塔特科学基金”(简称司徒塔特科学基金),主要用于超分子化学和分子机器领域的人才培养、国际学术交流、科学研究以及奖励在该领域有突出贡献的人才等。这也是浙江大学教育基金会首个以诺贝尔奖获得者命名的基金项目。
司徒塔特科学基金为开放型的留本基金,目前基金已获得来自司徒塔特教授及其友人、学生和合作伙伴,以及杭州之江有机硅化工有限公司等捐赠支持。
Sir James Fraser Stoddart, one of the pioneers in molecular machines, Nobel Prize Winner of Chemistry in 2016, and a foreign member of Chinese Academy of Sciences, has made significant contributions to molecular science in China with a high international academic impact in the field of supramolecular chemistry. In addition to cultivating Chinese doctoral students, postdoctoral fellows, and visiting scholars, he has also fostered extensive collaborations with many academic institutions in China, elevated the academic excellence and international recognition of research in the field of supramolecular chemistry and molecular machines in China substantially, and was granted such honors as Chinese Government’s Friendship Award and the International Science and Technology Cooperation Award of the People’s Republic of China. Over the years, Professor Stoddart has developed a solid friendship with Zhejiang University. As the Dean of the Stoddart Institute of Molecular Science (SIMS) of ZJU-Hangzhou Global Scientific and Technological Innovation Center, he has played a pivotal role in its establishment and development, contributing significantly to the research of supramolecular chemistry, cultivation of high-calibre talents, and the reinforcement of first-class disciplines of Zhejiang University.
In order to promote the rapid development of supramolecular chemistry to support the education of Zhejiang University, Professor Stoddart took the initiative to establish “Stoddart Science Fund of Zhejiang University Education Foundation”(referred to as “Stoddart Science Fund” for short), which is mainly used for supporting talent cultivation, international academic exchanges, scientific research, and awarding those who make outstanding contributions in the field of supramolecular chemistry and molecular machines to advance supramolecular chemistry and related disciplines. This is the first fund named after a Nobel Laureate in Zhejiang University Education Foundation.
Stoddart Science Fund is an open-ended endowment Fund, which has received donations from Professor Stoddart and his friends, students and partners, as well as Hangzhou Zhijiang Silicone Chemical Co., Ltd.
